Statement on violence at U.S. Capitol
The following statement is from our President and CEO, Shannon Isom, in response to the unprecedented attack on the United States Capitol that occurred on Jan. 6, 2021.At YWCA Dayton, we know that not all violence is physical, visible, acknowledged, or responded to equally. Make no mistake: this week’s assault on the U.S. Capitol was blatant violence and white supremacy in action. And it cannot stand. For 151 years, we have demanded a world of equity and human decency. Disrupting anti-Blackness, confronting white supremacy, and eliminating racism are urgent imperatives. We are here in our right now.We will get up, every day, and continue to do this work, to build more equitable futures, until injustice is rooted out; until institutions are transformed; until justice, just is.We invite the advocates, supporters, activators, change makers, dreamers, visionaries, those who are angry, sad, exhausted, tired, refreshed, renewed — the hopeful — to join us in doing more. Be On A Mission with us to secure peace, justice, freedom, and dignity, for all.
