Carol Prewitt

Carol Prewitt lives out the mission of the YWCA through her numerous works that empower women and girls in the Dayton community. Over the years she’s led arts camps for disadvantaged students, mentored young women, donated to the Mustard Seed Foundation and Mercy Manor and can always be counted on to check on or give a ride to local senior citizens.“I don't think ‘No’ is in her vocabulary. She’s dedicated to service. Her family is fortunate to have her and so are we. She is truly a blessing and is there for everyone,” her nominator said.Carol co-founded and was a board member for Clothes That Work! and is involved with at least a dozen community organizations including Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Church Women United in Greater Dayton, The Links Incorporated, National Council of Negro Women, Toastmasters International, Twentig, Inc. and Women in Business Networking.Prewitt has also served the community as Vice Chairman of the Daybreak Board of Trustees; as a board member with Omega Community Development Corporation; as President of the Emergency Housing Coalition; and as a board member of the Area Agency on Aging.She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and worked as a licensed social worker and a teacher before going on in her professional career to serve as an aid to Congressman Tony P. Hall and Ohio State Senator Fred Strahorn as well as congressional liaison representative for the United States Air Force Academy and clerk to Montgomery County Board of Commissioners. She currently runs her own consulting business.Prewitt’s awards and honors include the Department of the Air Force Meritorious Civilian Service Award; Amer Court No. 65 Daughters of Isis Excellence in Leadership Honoree; the Mary Scott Legacy Award; The Presidents Club of Dayton Outstanding Community Service Award; Toastmaster of the Year Award; Fellowship Christian Ministries Phenomenal Woman Honoree; Women in Business Networking 2013 Top 25 Women to Watch and Shiloh Church Outstanding Community Service Honoree.As her nominator notes, “Carol is a mighty but gentle giant when it comes to serving her community.”
