October Newsletter

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

An estimated 1 in 3 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime. October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and as the only domestic violence shelters in Montgomery and Preble counties, it is a critical month for us.

We are thankful for the incredible supporters who turned out the first week of October for Voices Against Violence and Purple Paws: Preble Pets Against Domestic Violence, our two signature events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month. If you missed the event, you can check out WHIO's coverage here.

A special thank you to everyone who has helped us #paintthetownpurple and has tied purple ribbons with our crisis hotline (937-222-SAFE) around Preble County, downtown Dayton, and The Greene.

There's still plenty of additional opportunities to this month to get involved:

  • Download our 24/7 Crisis Hotline flyer to display at your business or organization.

  • Join us MONDAY for a Facebook Live on domestic violence evolving in the digital age.

  • Read No Visible Bruises and RSVP to meet up and discuss 6 p.m. Oct. 25 at Sueño.

  • Listen to testimonies by YW clients, sharing what they are proud of.

Become a monthly donorto ensure these critical services continue all year long.

Paint the Town Purple

From lavender t-shirts to purple ribbons on telephone poles, our annual Paint Preble Purple awareness day encourages community members to wear and share the color of Domestic Violence Awareness Month any way they can.

Thank you to all who participated this year, including Eaton Community SchoolsPreble County Mental Health & Recovery Board, Summit Chiropractic, Preble County Public Health, Skyline Chili, and Gebhart Counseling Solutions.

Listen to YW clients share their proud moments

Because of the sensitive nature of the domestic violence services we provide, we know community members often don’t get the opportunity to hear from the clients in our shelters and housing programs.

That’s why we were so proud to produce this video for Voices Against Violence, where we found a way to share survivors’ own stories, in their own words.

If you were unable to attend our event, we encourage you to watch these testimonies.
