Marvene Mitchell Cook

As the Director of the Office of CARES Act for Montgomery County, Marvene was responsible for coordinating and dispersing more than $92 million in COVID-19 pandemic relief funding throughout the community. She worked to ensure wrap around services would be offered above and beyond the funding, and even gave back by volunteering with some of the CARES Act recipients.She was instrumental in the creation of both the Workforce Mobile Unit and the Westown Employment Opportunity Center to assist in economic recovery following the Memorial Day tornados and then the pandemic.“Her smile and quite calming nature might fool you, but Marvene is a force to be reckoned with,” one nominator wrote. Marvene is tenacious and constantly gives her absolute best.”Marvene is a Gold Life Member of the NAACP and during her tenure as Director of Community Involvement with the NAACP Executive Board she created evening Adult/Youth Job Fairs that included childcare so parents could have an opportunity to seek employment.As a Diamond Life Member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. Marvene led a “Get Out to Vote” campaign to encourage minority voters to use their political voice to affect change, as well as hosting a candidate forum.Marvene is Co-Chair of Montgomery County Workforce Investment Board, Chairperson Montgomery County Out of School Youth Board, member Central State University Land Grant Board, member University of Dayton/Greater West Dayton Incubator Advisory Board, member Dayton Public Schools Advisory Board and Treasurer for the Dayton Chapter of the Links Incorporated Executive Board.Her community awards include Dayton Unit NAACP Committee Chair of the Year, Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce Volunteer of the Quarter Award and Jonathon Dayton Public Partner Award, and Tabernacle Baptist Church Community Champion Award.She is a faithful member of St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Dayton, Ohio. She is married to Hubert Cook and they have three children and two grandchildren.
