An internship in stories

Cannon Cook, sponsored by the SRC Community Internship Program, came to YWCA Dayton’s office from Tiffin University where he is studying marketing. Born in San Antonio, Texas but raised in Bellbrook, Ohio, Cook is an open-minded and positive individual. These last few months he has worked tirelessly, going through archives –both internal and external- in pursuit of those truly unique stories that make the YW such a legacy in this community.Q: How did you find out about YWCA Dayton?A: I found out about the YWCA as I use to go to Sinclair Community College and would often drive by.Q: How long is your internship?A: My internship started in the beginning of June and it ends sometime in August.Q: What is one major project you are working on at YW?A: Currently, I am gathering and going through old information about the history of the YWCA because the YWCA turns 150 next year!!Q: What has been the best part about interning at YWCA Dayton?A: The best part about interning at the YWCA has to be the friendly staff who makes me feel at home every single day when I walk in.Q: What is your favorite flavor of ice cream?A: Cookies & Cream!Q: What advice would you give other future interns?A: Shoot for the stars. Don't let anybody or anything stand in the way of your dreams. With hard work and a little bit of luck, opportunities are going to come your way. Be patient and don't give up.Q: What should people know, but usually don’t, about YWCA Dayton?A: The YWCA is so much more than your average homeless shelter. The YWCA engages and interacts with the local surrounding communities; the YWCA even offers camps to young girls and women who may or may not have had the chance to do so before signing up.Q: What is a hidden talent or skill you have?A: I can touch my nose with my tongue!Q: Favorite song to work to?A: Any song by Logic or Post Malone (Explicit Warning, listen at your own risk).Q: Anything you want to add?A: I just think in general how the YWCA is turning 150 years old is incredible, as well as how long this building has been in use as well. There aren’t many organizations who come close to the age of the YWCA!
